Brief history of the College

Donyi Polo Government College, Kamki is the 6th college of the state which was established on 22nd July 1996. The establishment of this college was a major step taken up by the authorities to lead the people of West Siang Basin towards the new horizons of higher education. The college is named after ‘DONYI – POLO’ means the almighty sun and moon, which is regarded as the ‘Supreme Reality’ according to the mythology of tribal people of the region. With a modest beginning of MIBT type 6 roomed building structures, 5 faculty members and 190 students’ enrolment; now the college with students’ strength of 888 students’ and 28 faculty members and an ever increasing infrastructure has completed its twenty second years of existence.

Geographically, the location of the college coincides approximately over the lines of 280, 16’ N latitude and 940 39’ E longitudes. Situated at the heart of Arunachal Pradesh, the college site is about 1.5 km from the Hiru Bridge on the Aalo – Mechuka BRTF main road over a sprawling campus of 103.7 acres of plain land. Its location over the western bank of Yomgo River – a major tributary of mighty Siang and the surroundings of lush green forested high hills makes it a picturesque landscape, most suited for academic activities.

Initially college offered only the Bachelor Degree in Arts without honours. The college expanded its courses in 2007 – 08 by introducing Department of commerce. College has 8 departments at present and construction of building for science department is on progress. The college was affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University, formerly known as Arunachal University. The college is also recognised by the UGC, under section 2(f), 12(b) of UGC guidelines.

The college was accessed and accredited by NAAC in 2006 with the grading of ‘B’. College was accredited again in 2nd cycle of accreditation in 2014 with CGPA of 2.35 (grade B).
